Coach

Back To Coaching Staff

Michael joined the Washington Rush coaching staff in 2013. He has over 20 years of experience coaching youth soccer at various levels and has worked within the game for over 3 decades. He has led his teams to numerous league titles, a State Cup quarter-final, 2 State Cup semi-finals and a State Cup Championship. Even with all that success, Michael's proudest moments as a coach have been seeing his players fulfill their dreams of advancing to play at the collegiate level. Michael holds a USSF D license and a globally recognized Coerver Youth Diploma.

Michael was born in Hong Kong and immigrated to Seattle at a young age where he and his brothers grew up playing and excelling in soccer. He was offered a pro contract at age 17 and has played semi-pro soccer in the US and Canada. His fondest memory as a player was playing in the final of an international tournament in Toronto, Canada where the game was decided on the 9th penalty kick. Michael scored as the first kicker, but his team ultimately finished as runners-up. Nevertheless, it will always be one of the greatest games he participated in.

His favorite teams include the Brazilian national teams of the 70s and 80s and the Dutch national team of the 70s where total football was born. Currently, Michael is a huge fan of FC Barcelona and their Tiki-Taka style. He admires these teams for their skillful, creative, and attack-minded players and tries to bring this style of play into the teams he coaches.

Michael lives with his wife of more than 25 years along with his 90 years old in-laws. Michael has 4 daughters who all played soccer. His youngest daughter currently plays for Northwest University as a forward.
